How is it use?

The Golden Ratio is used heavily in architecture, design, and many other fields.

Architecture

One of the oldest examples is the Great Pyramid of Giza. It is believed to use the Golden Ratio in the dimensions of the pyramid. The ratio between the bottom side of the grey triangle and its hypotenuse is 356/220=1.61818… very close to the Golden Ratio. Also the ratio of the base and the height is 280/220=1.2727… which is the \(\sqrt{\Phi}\) so the Pyramid is thought to be based on the golden ratio.

Example of the Golden Ratio in architecture

The Golden Ratio can be found in all sorts of buildings. These are some examples.

The CN Tower is in Ontario. It is 1805 feet high and the main deck is 1108 feet heigh and the ratio of the 2 is: 1805/1108 = 1.629... close to the Golden Ratio.

The Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris also uses the Golden ratio.
